The Rossetti Project

In the heart of Marylebone village, one of London’s most architecturally distinguished districts, Marylebone Square, redefines the concept of contemporary urban living. Conceived as a modern interpretation of the classic London mansion block, this development by Concord London blends seamlessly into its historic surroundings, where red-brick Georgian façades and refined architectural detailing have long defined the neighbourhood’s character.
As London’s the only new build of its kind in Marylebone village, Marylebone Square comprises 54 luxury apartments, a curated selection of boutiques and restaurants, and a community hall that celebrates craftsmanship and longevity. Its design is distinguished by a distinctive lantern frieze and a rhythm of cast-metal balustrades that encircle the building, giving it a sense of both modern precision and classical grace.
The 4th floor penthouse roof terrace offers an elevated expression of this design language. Here, form, material, and landscape converge to create a sanctuary above the city. Europlanters were commissioned by landscape and garden designer Joe Brimson Ltd to manufacture a series of bespoke planters designed by Joe Brimson himself to enhance the terrace’s organic flow while maintaining coherence with the building’s architectural palette.
On the building’s fourth floor, The Rossetti penthouse a 3,600 sq ft sanctuary opens onto a 1,400 sq ft wraparound terrace. Landscape Designer Joe Brimson was commissioned to transform this rooftop into a private sky garden, creating multiple zones for quiet relaxation and outdoor entertaining. His design layers specimen trees, fragrant shrubs, and planters at varying heights to create visual dynamism and organic movement throughout the space. Manufactured by Europlanters to Joe’s exacting specifications, these planters harmonise seamlessly with Marylebone Square’s refined architectural palette.
A total of eleven large GRP planters were created, each ranging from 1.5 to 8 metres in length. Their sweeping, curvaceous profiles introduce softness to the terrace’s geometry of the terrace, guiding the eye across the space in a continuous movement. Finished in a sophisticated metallic anodic bronze, the planters subtly reflect light throughout the day, their sheen harmonising with the bronze tones of the façade and balustrades. The result is a seamless integration between landscape and architecture, where each curve and contour feels both deliberate and natural.
The choice of GRP (Glass Reinforced Plastic) allowed Europlanters to achieve a lightweight yet highly durable form, essential for rooftop applications. Each piece was precision manufactured to withstand the demands of an exposed urban environment while maintaining the integrity of its finish over time. The smooth metallic surface complements the terrace’s contemporary detailing, while the generous planting pockets, allowed Joe Brimson to design a dynamic and multi-layered planting scheme, softening the space and creating privacy for the residents.
Expertly installed and planted up by Grounded Landscapes, the planters were elevated to another level of beauty transforming the terrace into a living sculpture where vibrant planting enhances the elegant architectural framework. The greenery spills gracefully over the curved edges, animating the space with seasonal colour and texture, and grounding the contemporary design in nature.
Beyond their aesthetic contribution, the planters reinforce the ethos of Marylebone Square a commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and connection with nature. Just as the building’s central courtyard replaces traditional corridors with an airy, light filled atrium, the penthouse terrace transforms a rooftop into a tranquil retreat, a private oasis above the vibrant streets below.
Through projects like this, Europlanters demonstrate how precision manufacturing and creative collaboration can elevate architectural landscaping into an art form. At The Rossetti, Marylebone Square, the planters are more than functional vessels; they are sculptural elements that extend the architectural language of the building into its most exclusive spaces, blurring the boundary between structure and nature with quiet sophistication.
