Galvanised Steel is ideal for Exterior Landscaping where an urban look is required.  Although shiny to start with these planters will dull down. Aluzinc is a galvanised steel but it does not dull with time or show ‘water’ marks. Stainless Steel can be used outside as well as inside, it will not rust but can corrode!  This is down to chemicals in the compost (e.g. fertiliser) so we recommend a plastic liner used or GRP. Mild Steel is cheaper but needs to be powder coated inside and out or GRP lined. Nearly all these units are bespoke although some standard sizes are available, keeping the price down. The Circular and Square units are standard sizes. The Galvanised Steel frame and mesh (1” or 2”) are constructed around a GRP planter for interior or exterior use. Castors can be fitted for easy positioning. Colour can be added to the scheme instead of the traditional black. It is used in construction to clad buildings, has excellent weathering properties and can be formed into many shapes and sizes. Aluzinc does not dull down like ordinary galvanised steel and will not water mark. However care must be taken in transit that two planters do not contact each other otherwise marking will occur. This not only adds colour to your planter but also gives extra protection from the outside elements. The Colours are :- Bismuth - a matt textured lead look. Vanadium - a tough hammered bronze effect. Tungsten - dark metallic grey. Erbium Titanium Black Old Iron Dark Quartz Light Quartz   Powder Coated Finishes Powder Coated Finishes Powder Coated Finishes Powder Coated Galvanised The Planters in the first photograph are made from Zintec, lock formed in the same way as Galvanised Steel, then Powder Coated in Silver (RAL 9006) and lacquered over. This may sound expensive and certainly looks very classy but in reality these containers are not much dearer than Aluzinc. Although there are visible seams in this range we can also offer fully welded steel units powder coated in virtually any colour. The second picture shows a Galvanised Steel (Zintec) trough powder coated in a cream colour to match the decor of the building. Zintec Planters can be made to order to offer almost any size and colour at a reasonable price. Powder coating costs vary depending on colour and the number required, Satin Black is one of the cheapest at approximately £15 per square meter. Metallics are also available but these usually require a clear lacquer for extra protection from the elements. These include Silver (above right), Gold, Copper and Gun Metal (RAL 9007). Corten and Stainless Steel Corten and Stainless Steel sheet can also be lock-formed together to create bespoke steel planters. This method of construction is cheaper than welded planters and offers considerable cost savings. Corten, also known as 'Weathering Steel', is widely used to clad buildings and has been used for famous structures like the Angel of the North. It is a steel alloy containing Copper as well as Chromium and Nickel and oxidises giving a rusty appearance. It is ideal in public places where there is risk of vandalism as scratches soon 'rust' over again. The disadvantages are staining from the corrosion so best to sink into a patio area or place on gravel. These planters also need good drainage to prevent continual corrosion which might lead to irreparable damage. Please e-mail, telephone or fax for a quotation.
